The destination

Two conservancies, now one.

Olare Motorogi sits on the northern boundary of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. It brings together two conservancies that used to be listed separately, Olare Orok and Motorogi.

The land is owned by Maasai families, and the camps here pay rent to use it. It is a separate destination from the reserve, with its own camps and its own guides.

Each camp runs its own activities with its own guides. These are the ones the camps describe.

  1. Game drives

Camps run game drives across the conservancy with their own guides. At Kicheche Bush Olare they start right from camp.

  2. Guided bush walks

Kicheche Bush Olare offers walks on foot with a guide, a slower way to learn the plains and the animals that use them.

  3. Days in the reserve

Mara Plains Camp sits on the reserve's northern boundary and includes access to the reserve for its guests.

When to go

The conservancy through the year.

July to October

A Kenya Wildlife Service official says the wildebeest migration is on the Kenyan side in these months. Timing varies from year to year, and sightings are never guaranteed.

November to March

Kenya Wildlife Service counts July to March as high season, with sunny weather and short grass that makes animals easier to see.

April to June

The long rains usually fall now. Kenya Wildlife Service notes that some roads may need four-wheel drive.
