About the camp

About Mara Plains Camp.

Mara Plains Camp sits in riverine forest in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, on the northern edge of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The conservancy keeps vehicle numbers low, and its fees support more than 1,000 Maasai families.

There is no fixed schedule: guests head out when they like, in the conservancy or the reserve. Professional cameras and binoculars are provided, and the camp is a member of Relais & Châteaux.

When to go

The camp through the year.

July to October

A Kenya Wildlife Service official says the wildebeest migration is on the Kenyan side in these months. Timing varies from year to year, and sightings are never guaranteed.

November to March

Kenya Wildlife Service counts July to March as high season, with sunny weather and short grass that makes animals easier to see.

April to June

The long rains usually fall now. Kenya Wildlife Service notes that some roads may need four-wheel drive.
