Lewa Wilderness
A family-owned lodge of thatched cottages on the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, still run by the Craig family.
About the lodge
A family home on Lewa.
Lewa Wilderness began as the Craig family’s cattle ranch, and first welcomed guests in 1972. The family still owns it and lives on the property, so a stay here feels more like being a guest in a home than in a hotel. Etana works with the lodge and can include it in a journey you plan with us.
Nine thatched cottages are spread along the hillside and through the gardens. The six hillside cottages look across the valley, and the three garden cottages, each with two bedrooms and a sitting room, sit on the lawns near the main house and suit families. Beyond game drives on one of Kenya’s great rhino sanctuaries, there is riding, walking, and flights over the conservancy.

When to go
The lodge through the year.
Borana says its rains have usually come in March and April, as short, heavy showers. It adds that patterns are getting harder to predict.
Borana Lodge names these as favourite months, with clear, warm weather before the school holidays.
Borana's other usual rainy month, when storms can last longer, sometimes a whole day.
