Tsavo East National Park
Kenya's largest national park, run by Kenya Wildlife Service, with the Galana River running through it.
The destination
Kenya's largest national park.
Tsavo East covers about 13,747 square kilometres, which Kenya Wildlife Service says makes it the country's largest national park. It was established in April 1948 and lies in Taita-Taveta County.
The Tsavo, Athi and Galana rivers run through the park, and the Yatta Plateau, an old lava flow, runs along it. KWS lists Lugard's Falls, Mudanda Rock and the Aruba Dam viewing point among its highlights, and records more than 500 bird species.

When to go
The park through the year.
Kenya Wildlife Service calls this the high season and the best time for wildlife viewing, with sunny weather and shorter grass.
KWS says the long rains arrive in these months, and many park roads may need a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
Weather varies from year to year and sightings are never guaranteed. We plan around the months you can travel.
