The destination

Next door to the reserve, on community land.

Westgate Community Conservancy stretches along the Ewaso Nyiro River to the west of Samburu National Reserve, in Samburu County. It is a separate destination from the reserve, on community land, with its own rules.

The conservancy was established in 2004 and is a member of the Northern Rangelands Trust. Sasaab, set on a ridge above the river, is in the conservancy, and its guests explore both Westgate and the reserve next door.

  1. Game drives in two destinations

The Safari Collection says Sasaab guests go on game drives both in Westgate and in the adjacent Samburu National Reserve.

  2. Guided wildlife viewing

The conservancy lists guided tours and wildlife viewing on its own land.

  3. Samburu culture

The conservancy also lists Samburu cultural experiences among the things visitors can do.

When to go

The conservancy through the year.

December to March

July to December

The other high season in KWS guidance, when wildlife is easier to see. Sightings are never guaranteed.
