Buffalo Springs National Reserve
The reserve on the southern bank of the Ewaso Nyiro, facing Samburu National Reserve across the river.
The destination
The south bank of the river.
Buffalo Springs National Reserve lies on the southern bank of the Ewaso Nyiro River in Isiolo County, directly across the river from Samburu National Reserve. It is managed by Isiolo County Government, not Kenya Wildlife Service.
Its name comes from springs of clear water that, according to the 2001 Key Biodiversity Area assessment, draw wildlife in the dry season. Shaba National Reserve lies a few kilometres to the east.
