The destination

The land around the park.

Olgulului-Ololarashi is a Maasai group ranch, land held by the community, which surrounds most of Amboseli National Park. It is not a conservancy and not part of the park.

Parts of it have been set aside by the community as conservancies, among them the Kitenden Community Wildlife Conservancy, registered in 2017.

Ways to explore.

The group ranch has no visitor programme of its own. You see it from the camps and conservancies on its land, and from the park.

  1. From a conservancy camp

Camps on conservancies around the park run their own drives and walks. We confirm which conservancy a camp is on before we say so.

  2. Into the park

Amboseli National Park, which the ranch surrounds, is reached through its gates at Iremito, Kimana and Meshanani.

  3. Visiting with respect

This is community land used by Maasai pastoralists. Any village visit is arranged through your camp.

When to go

The area through the year.

December to March

A high season for wildlife viewing in Kenya, according to KWS, with short grass and mostly sunny weather.

April to June

The long rains. KWS says animals can be harder to see and many roads may need four-wheel drive.

July to December

The other high season in KWS guidance. Sightings are never guaranteed.
